Station works

As part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade we're building Toolern station, upgrading Rockbank station and building additional platforms at WendoureeBacchus Marsh and Ballan stations.

Wendouree station

Wendouree station will receive a major upgrade as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade.

This will create enough space for trains to pass each other at Wendouree station for the first time, fixing the current problem that sees delayed services from Melbourne terminate at Ballarat and passengers forced onto replacement buses because trains can’t pass at Wendouree.

The upgraded Wendouree station will include a new accessible pedestrian link between the new and existing platform, security, lighting and signage.

Ballan station

The upgraded Ballan station will have improved access, better integration with buses, cars and pedestrians, improved security and lighting and improved landscaping in the area.

Works will include:

  • Building a new platform
  • Construction of a new accessible pedestrian overpass linking the north and south platforms
  • No significant changes to the existing station building
  • Improved layout of bus bays
  • New bicycle facilities including secure bike storage

Bacchus Marsh station

The upgraded Bacchus Marsh station will have improved access, better integration with buses, cars and pedestrians, improved security and lighting and improved landscaping in the area.

Works will include:

  • Building a new platform
  • Removal of the existing stabling yard
  • Additional parking, bicycle hoops and drop-off zones on the south side of the station
  • Improved layout of bus bays
  • Construction of a new accessible pedestrian overpass linking the north and south platforms
  • No significant changes to the existing station building

Rockbank station

The upgraded Rockbank station will have improved access, better integration with buses, cars and pedestrians, improved security and lighting and improved landscaping in the area.

Works will include:

  • Demolition of the existing station
  • Rebuilding two new platforms
  • Construction of a new accessible pedestrian overpass linking the north and south platforms
  • Providing a new sealed carpark, bus bays, taxi bays, secure bike storage areas and drop-off zones
  • Setting aside areas for future station development

Toolern Station

A new station at Toolern, between Rockbank and Melton, will be built as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade to help cater for the growing population of Melbourne’s outer west and take pressure off Melton station.

The station will be built in the future town centre of Toolern near the intersection of Ferris Road in Melton South and the Ballarat-Melbourne rail line.

It will provide the public transport infrastructure and connectivity required to support Toolern’s growth to an estimated population of 55,000 over the coming decades.

The new station will include:

  • Two platforms connected by an accessible pedestrian link
  • Sealed car parking
  • Drop-off zones, taxi spaces and secure bicycle facilities
  • Bus interchange and shelters
  • Security (CCTV) and lighting
  • Station facilities
