The following works have been completed as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade:
Caroline Springs - Melton, October to December 2017
Work included construction of site offices, toilets, storage facilities and access tracks, allowing work to duplicate 18 kilometres of track between Deer Park West and Melton to begin sooner.
The site will oversee the removal and relocation of endangered spiny rice flowers and vulnerable large-fruit groundsels – both native species – to a nearby location in coming weeks, to protect the plants during works.
The Hopkins Road site will be used throughout delivery of the Ballarat Line Upgrade. The level of activity at the site compound will vary over the life of the project.
Works within the rail corridor included:
- improvements to access tracks
- grass cutting and slashing
- vegetation removal
- relocating utilities
To minimise the impacts of construction, some of the native vegetation removed from within the rail corridor will be replanted at selected local sites. No significant trees were removed as part of these works.
